Unravelling Stories
Identity Boxes

Asylum seekers tell their stories by creating a postcard or a video commentary of their new location. From this evolved the construction of ‘Identity Boxes’. These were made for characters that developed from information on historic postcards, feedback from recipients and creative imagination. They were also created by some of the asylum seekers who sought to tell their stories and represent their culture both through real objects and recorded audio commentaries.

The boxes invite us to explore differences and similarities in time and culture, unravelling stories and information about the people, their passions and fears.
